Live Review: The Hara @ The Lower Third, London
What’s the best way to shake off the winter blues? Obviously, it’s a gig. We went to catch one of our favourites, The Hara, at The Lower Third in London as a remedy.
Opening the evening’s proceedings was Brighton’s Hell Hotel. The group has an impressive stage presence and wastes no time in interacting with the crowd, giving them an insight to what their night has in store. They look and feel the part of a metal band, carrying the energy and enthusiasm that the room desperately needs. Vocalist Demi carries an admirable confidence, their powerful voice tearing throughout the room to reach every member of the crowd. At the back of the stage sits an exceptionally skillful drummer, carrying the set right to the end with a thundering talent.
Sandwiched in the middle of the acts is Eville. Another impressive band, the crowd is nearly silent as they begin their set. They may not look like a stereotypical heavy band with their vibrant bright pink outfits, but this look could not be more deceiving. Lead singer Eva immediately draws cheers from the crowd with her intense heavy vocals, the cheers only increasing when she reaches for a guitar a short way into their set. There is already a running theme of first-rate drummers backing bands this evening, as Eville’s powerful percussionist keeps up with the hectic pace of the rest of the group, even while posing for various cameras throughout the set. They bring an immense energy to the room, the vocalist and bassist jumping into a mosh pit mid-set to get as close to the crowd as you can really get, raising their spirits even further.
The atmosphere grew electric as The Hara’s frontman Josh strode onto the stage, draped in a luxurious, oversized fur coat—bare beneath, exuding confidence and allure. Their set opened up slowly with a tantalizing build-up, steadily igniting anticipation before erupting into 'The System' the namesake of their current UK tour. The Hara take pride in their electrifying stage presence, unwavering confidence, and exceptional musicianship. Frontman Josh showcases an impressive vocal range and has been honing his low screams, seamlessly embracing the band's new and heavier, metalcore-infused sound.
They treated veteran fans to plenty of their signature tracks while showcasing their ever-evolving sound. The Hara have a remarkable ability to mix and match styles, and having had the honor of seeing them multiple times, we’ve witnessed their continuous growth. With each performance, they refine their sound, elevate their stage presence, and masterfully incorporate props—clearly proving they’re more than ready for arena stages.
